Cupping Therapy

TCM Cupping/ Ba Guan

Using the principle of a vacuum, a cup is attached onto the skin surface via suction to create a local congestion in order to treat ailments. The common types of cups used are made of glass, bamboo, plastic or silicone.

Cupping may leave some small circular “bruises” on the body, also known as cupping marks. Cupping helps to stimulate the self-regulation of the body.

Benefits:

  • Promotes circulation of Qi and blood
  • Reduces swelling and pain
  • Relieve muscle tension and tightness
  • Promotes expulsion of wind and dampness
  • Improves lymphatic system by draining excess fluid and toxins
  • Promotes cell repairs and healing
  • Clears heatiness in body
  • Improves fatigue

Suitable for:

  • Pain management
  • Respiratory problems such as chesty cough, cold
  • Digestive disorders such as bloating, gastric pain, constipation
  • Migraines
  • Anxiety and depression

Cupping is suitable for most patients. However, patients with the following conditions may not be suitable for cupping:

  • Pregnant ladies
  • Blood disorders or bleed easily
  • Weak body constitution
  • Skin conditions such as sensitive skin, blisters or open wounds
  • Hairy body areas
  • Extreme fatigue

Things to note:

  • You can take a warm shower at least 2 hours after cupping
  • Avoid taking cold food and cold drinks
  • Keep warm, avoid cold wind

Cupping Colours:

The cupping marks may last for a few days up to two weeks. The colour of the cupping marks reflects the condition of your body. A darker colour cupping mark may indicate poor blood circulation and stagnation of body’s energy Qi.

Kindly inform our TCM physician if you do not wish to leave any cupping marks on the body.
